Maple syrup in smoothies is a no-brainer. Yes, smoothies are supposed to be a healthy drink with only the sugar that Mother Nature bestowed on the fruit for sweetness. But with props to the Grand Dame Gaia, some fruit can be lacking either because it was bred for shipping (not Lady Earth’s fault) or it was just a sub-par season with not enough sun (that’s on her).
Maple syrup will bring out the best of the fruit with its caramel – goodness and you only need a spoonful. Even more fun is to play around with our infused syrups to add additional flavor. For this one, I added the floral sweetness of our Makrut Lime-leaf Infused for a nice background note. Something about the lime leaf amplifies the sweet nectar flavor of mango. The kiwi gives it some zing and the toasted coconut adds some nuttiness. And if you think about it, Mother Nature gave us maple syrup too. You’ll just be adding several of her gifts together to make one really good drink.
Mango-Kiwi Smoothie with Makrut Lime-Leaf Maple
1 ½ cups peeled, diced mango (about 1 large mango)
1 kiwi, peeled, sliced
2 Tbsp Runamok Makrut Lime-Leaf Infused Maple Syrup
2 oz coconut milk
1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
1 – 2 Tbsp toasted coconut
Combine all ingredients except the toasted coconut in a blender. Turn on high and blend until very smooth. Since all fruit has different degrees of sweetness and acidity, taste for more maple syrup or lime juice. Pour in a tall glass and top with toasted coconut. Put on some Bob Marley and enjoy.
